What is high range water reducer?

High range water reducer is also superplasticizer.

What is a superplasticizer?

Superplasticizer is an admixture that can greatly reduce the amount of mixing water, that is, the admixture that can greatly reduce the amount of mixing water under the condition that the concrete slump is basically the same is called a superplasticizer.

Superplasticizer is an admixture that can reduce the mixing water consumption by more than 15% under the condition that the concrete slump is basically the same.

Development history of superplasticizer

The first generation of superplasticizers—naphthalene-based superplasticizers and melamine resin-based superplasticizers were developed in the early 1960s. Due to their better performance than ordinary superplasticizers, they were developed in the late 1930s. Lignin sulfonate is the representative – there is a significant improvement, so it is also called superplasticizer.

The second generation of superplasticizers is sulfamate, although in chronological order it is after the third generation of superplasticizers – polycarboxylate. The graft copolymer with both sulfonic acid group and carboxylic acid group is the most important and the best performance superplasticizer in the third generation superplasticizer.

The high range water reducer can reduce water by more than 20%. Mainly naphthalene series, melamine series and their compounded superplasticizers, of which naphthalene series are the main ones, and naphthalene series water reducers are often used to formulate high fluidity, high strength and high performance concrete. The slump loss of concrete simply mixed with naphthalene water reducing agent is faster. In addition, the adaptability of naphthalene-based superplasticizers to certain cements needs to be improved.

Features of high range water reducer:

Superplasticizer has a strong dispersing effect on cement, which can greatly improve the fluidity of cement mixture and concrete slump, while greatly reducing water consumption and significantly improving concrete workability. However, some superplasticizers will accelerate the loss of concrete slump, and if the dosage is too large, it will cause bleeding.

Superplasticizer does not change the setting time of concrete basically. When the dosage is large (overdosage), it has a slight setting retardation effect, but it does not delay the growth of the early strength of hardened concrete.

The high range water reducer can greatly reduce the water consumption and significantly improve the strength of concrete at all ages. While keeping the strength constant, cement savings of 10% or more can be achieved.

The high range water reducer has very little chloride ion content and does not corrode steel bars. It can enhance the impermeability, freeze-thaw resistance and corrosion resistance of concrete, and improve the durability of concrete.

The high range water reducer is applicable

  1. Applicable to prefabricated and cast-in-place reinforced concrete in various industrial and civil construction, water conservancy, transportation, port, municipal and other projects.
  2. It is suitable for high-strength, ultra-high-strength and medium-strength concrete, as well as concrete requiring early strength, moderate frost resistance and high fluidity.
  3. Precast concrete components suitable for steam curing process.
  4. It is suitable for water-reducing and reinforcing components (ie masterbatch) of various composite admixtures.

Water reducer is a concrete admixture that can reduce the amount of mixing water while maintaining the slump of concrete basically unchanged. Most of them are anionic surfactants, which can disperse cement particles after being added to concrete mixture, which can improve its workability, reduce unit water consumption, improve the fluidity of concrete mixture; or reduce unit cement consumption and save cement.
